Airport BART Could Help Oakland Construction
June 19, 2009 – Members of the Port of Oaklands Board of Commissioners continued to discuss the prospect of a $529 million BART line which would connect the Oakland Airport to the Coliseum and be 3.5 miles in length. It has been agreed that if the project moves forward, BART would utilize local Oakland construction labor and would pay prevailing wage.
The prospects of this enormous project are strained by the time constraints for federal funding, which BART is heavily reliant upon. If the construction moves forward, which at this point looks probable, many Oakland engineering contractors and Oakland general contractors could find themselves with stable, high-paying work.
