Bakersfield Area to See Major Road Construction

July 4, 2010 – This past week, the California Transportation Commission approved almost $900 million for a variety of transportation-related construction projects. The funding is being drawn from a combination of state bonds and federally allocated funds. Several of the projects will be taking place within the Bakersfield, California area, which is great news for Bakersfield general contractors and Lamont builders.

Two of the larger state designations include $20 million for the paving of Interstate 5 outside Buttonwillow and $24 million for construction on the Westside Parkway.

Texas Unemployment Declines on Back of Construction

July 20, 2010 – Recently released numbers show that the state of Texas may be on course to rally from the recession sooner than previously speculated. 14,000 jobs were added to Texas payrolls in June, with 4,800 of those positions in the construction industry. Builders in metro regions, like Houston general contractors and Dallas roofing contractors, are seeing more and more new projects initiated with each month.

The state of Texas as a whole decreased its unemployment by a tenth of a percent in June, from 8.3 to 8.2.

Construction Backlog in Florida a Positive Indicator

July 20, 2010 – A state’s backlog of construction projects is often a telltale sign of what lies in the near future for the industry. A report by the Associated Builders & Contractors says that Florida’s backlog increase by 12.5 percent between April and May of this year. This news is a positive indicator for all builders, from Miami general contractors to Palm Beach roofing contractors.

In May, the construction backlog was reported to be 6.8 months.

Gila Bend, Arizona to See Construction of Solar Farm

July 22, 2010 – The Pacific Blue Energy company is in the process of wrapping up the final details to make way for the construction of a 150MW solar farm in Gila Bend, Arizona. The 100 acre project is takes advantage of a zoning ordinance by the Gila Bend town council to encourage solar projects. Area builders, including Gila Bend contractors and Maricopa contractors, are expected to benefit from the Blue Pacific project.

It has also been rumored that Blue Pacific is seeking another 700 acres in the Gila Bend region.

Construction of Palm Springs, CA College Campus Set for 2012

July 30, 2010 – The College of the Desert in Palm Springs, California recently purchased 120 acres for a new West Valley Campus. The $2.1 million of land is located at Indian Canyon Drive and Tramview and the project should employ dozens of local tradesmen, like Palm Desert roofing contractors and Palm Springs general contractors.

This community enhancement construction effort is likely to start in 2012.
