Milpitas Contractors Await Calaveras Dam Project

October 6, 2009 - Environmental studies are about to be released, and, pending approval, could make way for the $409 million Calaveras Dam retrofit project east of the city of Milpitas.  The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission project is expected to save thousands of lives in the event of a disaster, and also save many endangered steelhead trout.  Hundreds of Milpitas contractors await the chance to bid for subcontracting positions on this large construction undertaking.

Presently, due to concerns about the stability of the 1920’s-era Calaveras Dam, the Calaveras Reservoir is only filled to 40% capacity.  This low volume is greatly effecting the local water availability amidst the present California drought.  Fremont contractors and Santa Clara contractors are also excited about the opportunity of pursuing sub-contracting positions on the 210-foot high dam project.
