Phoenix Looking for Federal Loans

December 15, 2009 – Last year the federal government rejected a request for a portion of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) dollars to flow directly to cities who were hardest hit by the economic downturn. Now, the Mayor of Phoenix, Arizona is in the nation’s capital imploring a Congressional committee to loan the city hundreds of millions of dollars in order to stimulate the ailing construction industry. The proposed projects could bring thousands of jobs to Phoenix contractors, especially Phoenix general contractors.

Some of the projects being pitched by the Mayor include bridges, sewers, and an new wing for the biomedical campus downtown. If these 30-year loans are approved, it would mean immediate relief to local tradesmen like Phoenix electricians.

Discussion of Construction of Arizona Loop 202 Again Open

January 27, 2010 – Over 40 years ago, Arizona’s Department of Transportation (ADOT) first proposed the construction of Loop 202 in west Phoenix. In January of 2002, the conversation was started again, and this Thursday, the South Mountain Citizens Advisory Team will continue the discussion at a community meeting. The project, estimated at $2.4 billion, could result in literally thousands of jobs for Phoenix concrete contractors and other local tradesmen.

ADOT is asserting that only 100 homes will need to be demolished to complete Loop 202, not the 250 homes which opponents to the construction have previously sighted. ADOT has plans of submitting environmental impact statements as soon as possible, which couldn’t happen soon enough for struggling builders like Tempe contractors.
