Fresno, CA Competing for High-Speed Rail Facility

February 5, 2010 - Fresno is in heavy competition with Merced and other cities in California’s Central Valley for the contract to construct a maintenance and test facility for the state’s proposed high-speed railway system. The testing facility will likely have a price tag in the $40 million range, but the city of Fresno has already offered to cover the cost of the land for the construction project.

California’s $43 billion rail system will generate thousands of construction jobs, and Fresno officials understand that the maintenance facility will bring close to one hundred jobs to the likes of Fresno electricians and Fresno engineering contractors. The city is putting its full weight behind its proposal for the facility which will employ 1,500 people when completed.
