If all stays on track, the plant’s construction could begin in late 2010.  The proposed plan is to gather water from Santa Margarita River during the heavy flow season, then filter and store this water for use during the drier seasons.  Temecula contractors are watching the progress of this large public works project closely.

The water harvesting project is to be overseen jointly by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, and Fallbrook Public Utility District, with close to $60 million of the $150 million being in the form of a low interest federal government loan.  A key feature of the construction will involve the building of water filtration facilities at Camp Pendleton.  Many local contractors are expecting to benefit from this project, including Fallbrook general contractors and Oceanside general contractors.
