October 27, 2009 – If all remains on track, early next year the city of West Palm Beach, Florida will be starting pre-construction on the new $110 million bridge at Flagler Drive. City officials are still hashing out the design,
debating between a contemporary or traditional design, but all parties seem to agree that the project will break ground in 2011. The Flagler Memorial Bridge construction will bring around one hundred jobs to the region’s ailing construction industry, and West Palm Beach contractors in particular.
In its functionality, the new bridge will differ from the existing bridge in that the new will not span Flagler Drive, but instead will end at a to-be-created intersection with Flagler Drive. West Palm Beach electricians are closely following the City’s discussions about the bridge’s lighting. The state Department of Transportation is presently in talks with the City to split the cost of higher-end lighting with the local government.
