Escena Project Underway for Palm Springs Construction

June 4, 2009 – The Escena 450 acre, 1,450-home community project in Palm Springs seems to finally be moving forward again. New Valley Palm Springs LLC came on the scene and bought the project’s loan out of foreclosure.  L.J. Edgcomb, who is acting as an agent of New Valley Palm Springs LLC stated that New Valley Palm Springs LLC is now owner of the golf course, 252 detached home sites, and 615 other construction products.

The Palm Springs project is getting rolling again by focusing on community improvements.  For instance, the guard-house is being renovated, and desert-tolerant plants are being installed around the outskirts of the enormous project.

The restart of the Escena project is another item in a string of good news for the Palm Desert construction industry.  In April, the California Desert Association of Realtors reported a 47 percent increase in Multiple Service Listed sales compared to the previous year.  It also noted a decline in inventory for the third month in a row.

It is recommended that all interested Palm Springs contractors and Palm Desert contractors contact New Valley Palm Springs regarding the opportunities the Excena project may present.

Riverside Construction Has Bright Spots

June 15, 2009 – Riverside County, which only a few years ago was the nation’s quickest-growing county, is hoping that some large construction projects underway and upcoming in the Coachella Valley will help Palm Desert and the surrounding areas make it through these tough economic times.

Though the monthly building permits issued count has been hanging at around 800 through April and May, there is no time like the present to build for the future.  Construction projects, especially those which leverage stimulus dollars, with timelines which lead into early 2010 will be poised to take advantage of the predicted economic recovery, experts say.

Some of the projects which are keeping Palm Desert contractors and La Quinta contractors employed include The Vineyard apartment and hotel construction in Palm Springs, the Eisenhower Medical project in Rancho Mirage, and new shopping centers in Palm Springs.

In the next few months, the desert chapter of the Building Industry Council has said to expect Riverside construction jobs to be created by the building and retrofitting of bridges and roads throughout the Coachella Valley.

Indio Contractors to Build New High School

July 7, 2009 – The Desert Sands Unified School District board of education has made the decision to move forward with the construction of a brand new Indio High School. The $84.8 million project is going to be constructed on the softball and baseball fields of the current Indio High School, allowing classes to continue during construction.  Included in the new construction are a swimming pool, administration building, and library, among other buildings.  After the new development is completed, the old school will be demolished and in its place will be various courts and athletic fields.

The rebuilding of the 50-year-old campus could present a tremendous award for the selected Riverside general contractor.  Also neighboring contractors, from Palm Desert electricians to Palm Springs plumbers, could benefit from the enormous project.

It is expected that the next year and a half will be devoted to creation of design and plans and identification of sub-contractors.  Construction is likely to begin in early 2011 and last through 2013.

$900M Power Plant in Works for Palm Springs Contractors

October 13, 2009 – Over 350 union construction jobs are likely to be created if the planning of the Palm Springs Sentinel Natural Gas power plant stays on course. The plant would be situated north of Palm Springs near the windmills along the Interstate 10 freeway.  Palm Springs contractors are hoping that construction is going to kick-off around the first of the year as planned.

Construction companies in the Palm Springs basin have been following the progress of the planning and certification for the 600 megawatt natural gas plant.  A recent bill was enacted which calls for the project’s immediate construction.  Almost every professional with a contractor license is expected to be pursuing subcontracting positions on this enormous project.

Palm Springs Overpass Project Planning on Track

January 17, 2010 – By the end of this month, officials in Palm Springs are expected to get federal approval for stimulus dollars to fund the widening the Palm Desert/North Gene Autry Trail overpass at Interstate 10. This $17 million project will not only significantly relieve congestion on these roads, but it will also provide nearly two years of employment to 350 local contractors like Palm Springs contractors who secure subcontracting positions.

Skanska USA is the front-runner to be named the project’s general contractor. All interested area tradesmen, including Indio contractors, should contact Skanska shortly after the contract is awarded.
